Advocacy

Upon exiting High School, Ian began working with the United Nations Association of Trinidad and Tobago under the Model United Nations Program. Little did he realise the direction that would propel his life!

Since then he has been a designer and the Head Trainer for the Model United Nations working with the Rotary Club of Central Port of Spain Directly. In addition he attended several international conferences on youth and youth development with the United Nations and eventually ended up working closely with UNAIDS as an advocate and activist.

Over the years Ian has served as the Co-Chair to the Campaign to End AIDS Youth Caucus, (2010 – 2012), the Regional Focal Point for the Caribbean Region to the Global Youth Coalition on HIV and AIDS (2012 – 2014) and currently serves on the UNAIDS Youth Advisory Board, also representing the Caribbean, (2013-2016). In 2017 Ian was also a mentor for the Queens Youth Leadership Awards program for H.M. Queen Elizabeth.

In Trinidad and Tobago he has worked closely with his government representing the country at the 1st UN Youth Forum in 2006 and then serving on the National Steering Committee and Declaration Committee for the 5th Summit of Americas Youth Forum and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting Youth Forum 2009. He also worked with UNAIDS on the International Steering Committee and Drafting Committee for the Mali Youth Forum on HIV/AIDS.
